If you were to ask any person who is in jail if he is guilty of any crime, 99 percent will say, “I am innocent of the charges against me, the police and the courts are wrong.”

Now that the skeletons are out of the closet for some of our would-be leaders, one candidate even stated, “Innocent people are arrested all the time. ... Unfortunately, I am one of them.”

I now wonder if voting is a good thing during this coming election. There will be those who will care less about who is a candidate as long as the pachangas bring free beer and free food. Past records will mean nothing. Maybe we do not have people with clean records to run for whatever position is open, maybe we are as naive as the Third World countries and just as ignorant.

To proclaim that the police are wrong when they make an arrest for the problems you bring on to yourself is beyond my limited comprehension of the laws of our country, but what I do know is if your hand is in the cookie jar and you get caught, take it like a man, swallow your pride and take the punishment. Don’t blame the police or courts for your mistake. We are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law by a jury of our peers.

One man who should not have pulled out of the race is Mr. Justin Ramos. His honesty is to be commended and not blamed for whatever he is suffering due to someone stealing his identity.

Let the chips fall where they may, I am more than sure that Mr. Sergio Chapa checked all his sources before he had his story printed.
