A UT student wanted for murdering and dismembering a woman in his West Campus apartment is expected back in Austin Wednesday.
Jennifer Cave
Mexican authorities found Colton Pitonyak, 22, and an ex-girlfriend at a hotel in Piedras Negras and turned him over to U.S. marshals in Eagle Pass, Texas. He's accused of killing Jennifer Cave, 21.
Now some are questioning whether her death could have been avoided.
Little has been released about Pitonyak and Cave's relationship. Officials say they were out on a dinner date the night before her family found her body here.
Now an Austin company says it may have been able to raise some red flags about Pitonyak before there was ever a date.
Almost anything you want to know about a potential dating partner doesn't have to come from their neighbors anymore. Information is now available through SafeDate.

The Austin company started up in January. Depending on how much you want too know -- $10 to $70 will buy a background check on potential suitors or potential roomates.
Mostly women are interested in finding out about someone that they may meet or go out with.
A woman was worried about her sister and the relationship she was getting into with an individual and that individual that we ran the check on had domestic violence in two different scenarios, two different cases we found and had been dismissed on a few other violent situations, Jeff T. Collins, Safedate, CEO.
SafeDate ran a background check for KVUE News on Colton Pitonyak, the UT student charged with intentional murder.
SafeDate was able to uncover a felony arrest and three seperate misdemeanors on Pitonyak in less than a day.
It's considered logical due diligence in our minds. You look at something and you determine if there's a cause for concern. In this particular situation she might have known something that she didn't know before, Collins said.
As good human beings we don't want to distrust our fellow human beings and yet it's only smart to know who we're dealing with, said Gail Rice, who is with SafePlace.

KVUE's Shelton Green reports
SafePlace is a safe haven for battered and abused women and men, and Rice says a background check on a potential date you don't really know may not be a bad idea, but that it shouldn't give you a flase sense of security.
There are people who are capable of violent crime who don't have a criminal record. So a background check is as good as far as it goes but it shouldn't create a false sense of security, Rice said.
